A full astrological birth chart is based on the time, date and exact locality of birth. It is actually a map of the heavens as seen from the place of birth. The planets appear in special divisions of the sky called houses, and moreover they are positioned in certain signs of the Zodiac.
The astrologer looks at positions of the Sun and Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune , Pluto and Chiron [an important planetoid between Saturn and Uranus]. Asteroids may be added, and significant points in space are plotted. The geometrical angles between the planets are vitally important in interpretation, and they are carefully computed and noted.
When a child is born, the geometry of the heavens at that moment will reflect the new individual's soul, potential, attitudes, character, challenges, and so forth. The life-journey, family relationships and likely partners, natural career choices, and mental and emotional make-up are indicated. And much more.
The planets' energies are interpreted to show our personal qualities and how these are meant to evolve during our lives. Every sign, planet and aspect [angle between planets] has a range of meanings, and every person contains both "positive" and "negative" qualities in some combination. Since each planet and point is in some house and sign of the zodiac, there are myriad combined meanings within a chart. We are truly unique individuals.
Throughout time all the great sages have urged us to know ourselves, and this is where astrology excels, because it is a superb tool for self-understanding. So much of human woe is caused through the lack of conscious awareness. As we work with our charts, we shine a light into the recesses of our lives. Our strengths become clearer and we learn to forgive our 'sins' more easily. We can then cooperate more effectively with the path of unfoldment that we chose before birth.
