We know that astrology is an art, but it can help to have checklists for when you really have to get it right. These are more than just lists – they include guidance on overall assessment of the chart in terms of its layers of priority, so that you can choose how deep to take an interpretation. It is not usually necessary, in practice, to analyse everything to the ultimate degree. This seminar will be especially helpful for exam candidates, but it is also excellent for checking your techniques and making sure you have included all the points.
The Moon is used for all manner of things in astrology, and it is not just her luminous Self but points derived from her movement that we use as well: the nodes, black Moon and Part of Fortune. She is variously a clock, a dragon who devours the Sun, an indicator of our heritage – on and on. We will cover her attributes in the natal chart, and mundanely, we will look back to the eclipse that hovered over the Chinese Olympics, and forward to the eclipse that bodes ill for America's 2 nd house of finance, but may just be of help to us Aussies.
This is not a bad place to start if you are interested in health astrology. Culpeper, Lilly and many others made a deep and effective study of the Choleric, Phlegmatic, Melancholic and Sanguine characters amongst us. It is not always easy to fit these types into astrological parlance, but perhaps this is not what we are meant to do with them. The traditionalists used humours as descriptive devices for analysing disease conditions and the patient's natural mode of health. The English astrologer Dorian Greenbaum has made a comprehensive study of the humours in modern times, drawing upon both traditional and Steiner teachings. There is much to learn here!
If Virgo or Gemini happen to be rising, then Pisces or Sagittarius would be setting. These opposing signs are ruled by Mercury and Jupiter – a natural pair of mates or, sometimes, rivals. We will look at how they support each other, how they fight, and what happens when they are in each others' signs. What do they lose in detriment or fall, and how can this be remedied? What does Jupiter have to do with our beliefs? What if Mercury or Jupiter rises or culminates in your chart; are you Mercurial, Jovial, a trickster, a spin doctor? These planets reveal much about us.
Saturday Mornings 13th and 20th September 10:30 AM – 1:15 PM
$65 + $25 manual The deadline to book is Friday September 5th
Learning to calculate a chart by hand [ by brain, really!] is a gratifying and even revealing experience. Once the astrologer is up to speed, it takes only 20 minutes or so to work out the angles, houses and planets' positions. The act of actually constructing the chart clarifies much about house and zodiacal structure that can be mystifying to the student.
The maths used are simple, although you need to work efficiently with hours, minutes and seconds, or degrees, minutes and seconds. Time zones are part of the study too.
The advantage of our system is that we have tables into which you enter the necessary figures, and the table itself tells you what to do, - the end result being the correct angles or planet positions.
A $25 manual goes with the course, and this book is good for all levels of calculations from natal to progressions and parts of fortune, etc.
The reference books needed for calculating a chart are
For the purpose of the classes, students will be given photocopied sheets of the relevant pages and tables. However, it is good to own these reference books – and an ephemeris is essential to an astrologer in any case.
Please book asap if you would like to come – the deadline to book is Friday September 5 th . We need to count numbers to know if the course will run.
including more material on dignities, receptions, family and position, fame and infamy, doryphory, and wealth.
Cost $120.

Lecturers: Edith de Burgh [Dipl. AGE; QA FAA,], Jeannette Lewis-Hill.
Level One: The Introduction to the Language of Astrology
This level introduces the astrological language as it is expressed through the signs, planets, houses and harmonic aspects. The layers of symbolic meaning are defined in terms of physical, psychological, mental, and spiritual functions.
The students learn to find their way around the horoscope and practice interpretation with their own charts as each topic is introduced. This includes the interpretation of signs on house cusps and angles and the placement of planets in houses. Rulerships are also taught.
Full chart interpretation is demonstrated to introduce students to the methods and purpose of astrology.
Level Two: Basic Delineation and Astrological Cycles [Dynamic Astrology]
Level two students are taught the principles of delineation or chart interpretation, in which they learn to combine the various parts of a horoscope into a comprehensive whole.
They continue on to learn the astrology of the moving heavens: dynamic astrology. Transits, returns, and progressions define the influence of a given moment on a person or nation; this is the core of predictive astrology and the basis of understanding the cycles of life. A basic means of calculating progressions from the ephemeris is taught.
The significance of lunar phases in the natal and progressed charts is explained as being basic to the study of planetary cycles.
Level Three: Humanistic Astrology
This section is basically Applied Astrology. The sessions cover such topics as relationships and synastry, family astrology, career and talents, basic astrological psychology and basic mundane astrology. The lessons are designed to aid the students in linking their knowledge of astrology with actual life situations, and there is much practice in chart delineation at this level.
Main lecturer for the first three levels is Jeannette Lewis-Hill, with assistance from Edith deBurgh.
Sunday Seminars
The seminars are for astrologers and more advanced students who wish to keep up their skills. In 2007 the basic topics are being covered, such as delineation, transits, progressions and solar arc directions. Prices are kept low to encourage wide participation, and therefore pre-booking a deposits are necessary.
Jeannette Lewis-Hill and Edith deBurgh share the teaching of these seminars.
Medical Astrology
Medical astrology employs classical methods in much of its practice, with the added advantages of modern western astrology for determining the underlying spiritual/psychological causes of disease.
The classes present a thorough look at health patterns and tendencies, specific astrological correspondences with anatomy and remedies, classical and modern analysis of illness, the art of timing surgery and treatments, and the reading of decumbiture charts.
Jeannette Lewis-Hill, the lecturer, works continuously with various health professionals to research the information that is presented. Participants have the opportunity to join with a continuing study group in this fascinating field.
Medieval ~ Classical
Medieval Astrology takes us back to the era before the great split in the human mind between science and spirit, - the era of ancient astrological knowledge that is only today being re-discovered and re-applied. Its study gives a powerful basis to all modern astrologies, and is becoming an essential part of the 21 st century astrologer's tool-kit.
Edith de Burgh, the lecturer, is well-known to Perth-based astrologers as a strong scholar in various branches of astrology, with a fine Aquarian mind and a truly witty approach to all matters verbal. Lectures are guaranteed to be pithy and informative, and most beneficial to your repertoire of astrological knowledge.
