How are Aquarians capable?

They are in their ability to regard situations objectively and not allow emotions to sway them. Therefore they are impartial judges.

How is Aquarius fixed?

These natives are radical and unmovable at the same time. They will often espouse a social movement, and then remained fixedly committed to it for the rest of their lives. Their opinions tend to be solid and unyielding.

Aquarian psychology

Aquarius is so universal that they often have trouble in relating to individuals – although they cling to their individual rights to be ‘different.' Appeal to their sense of reason – they tend to disdain emotions. They are idealistic, with a strong sense of social justice. Don't try to pin them down – they prefer to remain impartial. This is the sign of genius – of ingenuity. Their path is to bring reform to the human race. Their challenge is to understand the effects their reforms will have on real humans. Science [Aquarius is technological] can be deadly, and reform doesn't always have the desired effect.

Aquarian Mythology

Prometheus

Prometheus was a Titan who was known for his foresight, and therefore had the tendency to side with those whom he knew to be future victors. For example, he foresaw the victory of Zeus over Kronos, and fought on Zeus' side.

Later, Prometheus assisted Zeus when the goddess Athene was born from his head. The goddess then taught him the arts of architecture, astronomy, medicine, metallurgy and other useful fields of knowledge, which Prometheus in turn passed on to mankind.

In some myths, Prometheus is credited with creating man himself out of clay and water, and breathing life into the human form. This makes him a counterpart of Archangel Michael, who is said to have done this same thing.

But what Prometheus is famous for in myth is when he initially observed the lowly condition of mankind, and wanted to help them. He stole fire from Zeus [who wanted to keep it for the gods only] and gave it to humans so they could warm themselves and cook. Zeus was furious, and punished Prometheus by chaining him to a rock, where every day an eagle pecked out his liver, and every night it grew back again.

After much time, Zeus considered that Prometheus had suffered enough for his ‘charity', and he was released to swap places with the suffering centaur-god Chiron.

From the above we can see a reflection of the themes of reform and assistance for the human race which runs through the Aquarian character.

Ouranos

Aquarius is ruled by two very different planets, Saturn and Uranus. The myths of both give some indications of the essence of this enigmatic sign. See Kronos in the Capricorn section.

Ouranos is the Greek sky-god from whom we derive the name of the planet Uranus. As we saw in the previous section, he dispatched his children back into the womb of Gaia, the earth-goddess/mother/wife.

What is instructive here is the reason that he did this awful thing. To quote Liz Greene in The Astrology of Fate [Weiser], p.251:

“this ancient and elusive deity ….was repelled by the children he begat ….on Gaia, the earthy Titans and the grotesque hundred-handed Giants, and imprisoned the whole brood in Tartaros, the bowers of the underworld, so that they would not offend his aesthetic eye.” ……….

“I have seen this process of repression of the earthy and the bestial so often in Aquarians that it seems a fundamental necessity of the sign. The offensiveness that the crude and the chthonic hold for Aquarius accounts, perhaps, for its ceaseless efforts to reform and redeem mankind, and its almost ferocious civilising instinct which is forever worrying at the baser aspects of the human personality like a dog at a bone.”

Greene goes on to propose that Ouranos is redeemed from his destructive perfectionism through the agency of his dethroning by Kronos. His severed genitals become Aphrodite, who combines earthy sensuality and divine aesthetics. The fearsome Erinyes, born of his blood and suffering, act as “a kind of permanent law against the shedding of the blood of kin.” [Ibid]

Uranus , astronomically speaking, is electric blue in colour [this is the planet of electricity] and spins around its axis in a prone position – lying over on its side, just to be different from the rest of the solar system whose planets spin in a more-or-less upright position. Aquarius is different!
