How is Capricorn capable?

Cap is a good organiser who works methodically and understands the importance of good foundations.

How is Capricorn cardinal?

This is the boss's sign, - the boss who makes decisions and acts on behalf of his own career or a corporate entity. Capricorns are self-motivated hard workers, accustomed to taking action in order to make things happen. In governments, they are the quiet movers and shakers.

Capricorn psychology: Caps are public-oriented, and have much concern for their reputations. In spite of this, they are reserved and need time-out. Structure is important to them in all parts of life, and they have the attitude that things must be useful or they are basically worthless. Due to their constant experience of being restricted or limited, they develop patience and endurance, and usually have a strong work ethic. Caps need to cultivate joy and fun to compensate for a tendency to be overly serious, and depression is a hazard with this sign.

Capricorn mythology

Senex

This is another ‘father' dominated sign. In Aries, the father is the wicked king who must be overcome; in Leo, he is the wounded king, as in Parsival. In Capricorn, he is the Senex – the old man. He goes on and on, and the child is forever in his shadow, holding back on his own life until the father finally departs the scene. By the time the child emerges from the shadow – he has become old himself. This reflects the late maturing of the Capricorn, and also his patience – perhaps too much of it.

It follows that many Capricorns are dominated by father, and either find their opportunities withheld until they are in later life, or, in the case of many Capricorn women, there is such an adoring focus on father that the women remain under daddy's domain long past the time when they should have grown out of his influence.

Kronos

Saturn is the Kronos of myth, and there is a lot of the father issue in his lineage. He was born of Uranus [Ouranos], the sky god, and Gaia, the earth mother. Kronos and his sister Rhea were Titans, and Uranus was repelled by their ugliness. He banished them to the region of Titanus.

In another version of the myth, Uranus stuffed the children borne by Gaia back into her earthy womb. Gaia in revenge armed Kronos against his father and urged him to defeat him. Kronos used the sickle to castrate Uranus, and the severed parts fell into the sea. They foamed up and out of this foam was created Aphrodite, goddess of love, who floated to shore on a seashell.

Later, Saturn was also jealous of his own children in the same way, and ate them as soon as they were born. When Jupiter was born, his mother gave Kronos a stone instead, which he swallowed. It made him sick, and he vomited up the entire lot of the children. Jupiter usurped his father, and became king of the gods.

Kronos = Time.

Pan

Greek myth associates Capricorn with the god Pan. While Pan was picnicking on the banks of a river the great monster Typhon appeared. Pan couldn't decide quickly enough which animal to disguise himself as, in order to flee. Jumping into a river feet first his bottom half became the tail of a fish while the rest remained as a goat, so Capricorn is often pictured as a goat with fish tail.

In another version of Pan's form, he was a composite creature, the upper part—with the exception of his horns—being human, and the lower part in the form of a goat. Pan is the prototype of natural energy and, while clearly a phallic deity, should not be confused with Priapus. Here we see the earthy nature of Capricorn.

The god Pan was celebrated as the author and director of the sacred dances which he is supposed to have created to symbolize the orbits of the heavenly bodies. Here we see reference to the Capricornian talent with structure and form.

The pipes of Pan signify the natural harmony of the spheres, and the god himself is a symbol of Saturn because this planet is enthroned in Capricorn, whose emblem is a goat. The Egyptians observed the Mysteries of Pan, who was regarded as a phase of Jupiter. Pan represented the impregnating power of the sun and was the chief of a horde of rustic deities and satyrs. He also signified the controlling spirit of the lower worlds.

Sometimes Capricorns don't exhibit the more usual, rather austere airs of the Capricorn, but follow the goaty path of the lusty and friendly Pan. In contrast to the usual archetype, Pan types care nothing for responsibility, but play and hunt after the objects of their affection. In one myth, Pan smells so goaty that no females can bear him. Defeated in love, Pan is nonetheless valued for his good nature and affection, and forms many platonic relationships.

Yet another Capricornian goat is the Scapegoat .
